The Weige Workhorse Knife: Skinned Prickly Pear Cactus

Skinned Prickly Pear Cactus Handle
One-of-a-kind Pitmaster's Workhorse in 440c high carbon, stainless steel. The handle is done in a skinned prickly pear cactus pad that has been stabilized and cast in bone white alumilite. The bolster is cholla cactus from the Big Bend area that has been stabilized to improve durability. Turquoise chips were added to the voids in the cactus and filled with clear alumilite. The turquoise is from the Sleeping Beauty mine in Globe, AZ that was closed in 2012. The Sleeping Beauty mine produced some of the finest turquoise in the United States while open. These materials are accented by two stripes of blue Persian lapis lazuli and a stripe of black and blue carbon fiber. The pins are solid nickel silver with an Earth brown linen micarta pin in the center. The main liners are royal blue and Earth brown G10. Built to be a daily user. 
 
This is Joe Zavala's favorite knife and it can be used for just about any task in your backyard or in your kitchen. Every Weige Knife is hand crafted by Travis Weige. This knife uses a Texas Mesquite handle.
